Salk Institute – What Do Medical Scientists Do?

So who are these heroes’ finding cures for varies diseases and a host of medical conditions?

These scientists at the Salk Institute are new scientists that cure a list of autoimmune diseases…and are different from those of earlier years. Now anyone with these diseases and back pain suffers can put these injuries and illness behind them.

They don’t seek fame or glory but just want us to heal better, faster, and to cure us of all medical issues and conditions.

On May 10, 2018, the Scientist at the Salk Institute published an article in the cell, about their finding the missing piece of the puzzle for the cure to type 2 diabetes and cancer. By boosting the Vitamin D in cells of mouse models proved beneficial in treating damaged beta cells.

Pancreatic beta cell: A type of cell in the pancreas that makes insulin. The pancreas is a fish-shaped organ that stretches across the back of the abdomen behind the stomach. Within the pancreas, there are areas that are called the islets of Langerhans.

Beta cells are unique cells in the pancreas that produce, store and release the hormone insulin. Insulin controls the level of glucose (a type of sugar) in the blood.

In type 1 diabetes, the body’s immune system mistakenly destroys and eliminate the beta cells.

Diabetes is a disease caused by inflammation, they identified the vitamin D receptor as an important modulator of both inflammation and beta cell survival.

Using beta cells created from embryonic stem cells, the scientist was able to identify a compound, iBRD9, that appeared to enhance the activation of the vitamin D receptor when it was combined with vitamin D to improve the survival of beta cells.

Vitamin D is also being known to cure back pain with inflammation according to many experts like Dr. Oz and others.

Years ago in the earlier days.

The March of Dimes Born on the eve of World War II as the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis (NFIP), the Foundation achieved an instant popularity that reflected the contemporary popularity of its founder, United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

American’s suffered from polio

FDR’s had the polio disability – he was never able to walk again on his own after contracting polio and was often seen in the wheelchair. He didn’t let this disease stop him from seeking answers and to find the cure.

He translated programs to uncover the mysteries of polio and to lend a helping hand to Americans suffering from the disease. He knew many Americans were suffering from this unknown disease and the numbers were already at epidemic proportions.

The war years were a time of major struggles, and efforts to launch the March of Dimes were boosted by radio, Hollywood, and the personal appeal of the president.

People were asked to donate what they could afford…Some gave dimes or what they could afford these times were hard for everyone.

In 1938, Basil O’Connor, a close associate of FDR through his entire presidency, became the leading light of the March of Dimes. Giving hope and providing the logistical backbone movement to help find funding and sponsorship.

His immediate task was to build an organization that could quickly respond to polio epidemics anywhere in the nation. Provide help and educate doctors with treatment options and to reassure the public they will end this problem.

Little was known about polio then

In 1943, the NFIP awarded a grant to the U.S. Army Neurotropic Virus Commission to study polio in North Africa.

Albert Sabin, MD though FDR was memorialized on the U.S. dime in 1946 thanks to a polio patients’ club of the Norfolk Hospital Association Chapter of the NFIP.

The huge polio epidemic of 1949. Entering the 1950s, the 3,100 chapters of the NFIP captured nicely in the slogan “Join the March of Dimes.”

Who are these Scientist?

In the late 1940s and early 1950s, Jonas Salk invented the polio vaccine and helped millions of kids who have been diagnosed with conditions of polio, NFIP, other bone, and spine disorders.

Summertime in America during the late 1940’s and early 1950’s was a time of great concern and worry for many parents. This was the season when children by the thousands became infected with the crippling disease, from which not everyone recovered.

Jonas who studied and had two separate dreams while he slept on how he can cure polio disease

October 28, 1914, Jonas Salk was born in New York City, the eldest child to parents Daniel Salk and Dora Press. His family was not wealthy but emphasized the importance of education to their three sons.

In 1934, Jonas being an exceptionally brilliant student attended high school for gifted children in New York City. Then enrolled at City College of New York received a degree in chemistry he was 20 years old.

In 1939, Salk graduated with his doctorate then was accepted to New York University to study medicine. His intention was always to become a medical researcher.

Contributions and Achievements:

After working as an intern at Mount Sinai Hospital for two years, Salk moved to the University of Michigan, where he studied flu viruses with Dr. Thomas Francis Jr.

In 1947 Salk accepted the appointment to the University of Pittsburgh Medical School and he began research on polio.

The 1952 American epidemic was the worst outbreak in the nation’s history. Of nearly 58,000 cases reported that year, over 3,000 people died and over 20,000 were left with mild to disabling paralysis.

Early, 1952 Salk developed the vaccine and began the first testing. Dr. T. Francis also helps with the account duties of tracking and coding the results of who was tested. By the end of testing approximately 1.8 million children had been vaccinated.

In 1955 and Salk became world-famous overnight his vaccine was approved for widespread use. Polio cases in America fell from 18 cases per 100,000 people to less than 2 per 100,000.

In the years after his discovery, many supporters, in particular, the National Foundation “helped him build his dream” of a research complex for the investigation of biological phenomena.

In 1963 The Salk Institute for Biological Studies opened in California carrying out research on diseases such as multiple sclerosis and cancer.

In 1975 Salk was the main director of research and development. Until he became its only founding director.

He continued working on research in the 1980’s, studying AIDS and working on a vaccine against HIV.

Jonas Works:

His major works are:

(1972) Man Unfolding

(1973) The Survival of the Wisest

(1981) World Population and Human Values: A New Reality

(1983) Anatomy of Reality: Merging of Intuition and Reason

Personal and Death:

In 1939, Salk married Donna Lindsay and together they had three children.

In 1968, The couple divorced.

Salk married French painter Françoise Gilot in 1970.

On June 23, 1995, Salk died from heart failure at age 80.

A monument at the Institute with a statement from Salk captures his vision,

Hope lies in dreams, in imagination and in the courage of those who dare to make dreams into reality.”

The Salk Institute Now.

In 2012, Albert Sabin develops the oral vaccine for polio, which is widely used over the injection vaccine.

Now hundreds of scientist from all over the world are studying plant biology and other treatments to cure diseases like the 5 known cancers and diseases like Type 2 diabetes.

The Salk Institute scientist is continuing new discoveries in the treatment of the five major cancers. They are now clinical trials ongoing by third-party health care facilities that can house patients.

Salk scientist has tested and found ways to help the Immune system fight off the cancer viruses using Vitamin D. Other factors in treating cancer is discovered, that cancer acts differently from one person to the next.

Treatment medication has already been approved by the FDA for use, some medication was approved to be safe cancer treatments. This medication helps boost the immune system and work with Vitamin D to form an attack on different cancer cells.

For some reason, the cell receptor in our body gets blocked, don’t work, and can’t fight the cancer cells alone by themselves.

Cancer builds a shell around itself and shields itself from being attack by the immune system. Scientist discovered only vitamin D was able to break down the walls open the gates for the immune system to attack the cancer cells.

The United States Former Vice Presidents Joe Biden and Al Gore support the Salk Institute and may on occasion attend groundbreaking briefings. These committees and conferences give clear logistics and let the scientist describe the research in their field of study.

The exercise pill created at the Salk Institute for people who can’t walk or get out of bed. Now they can lose weight and be healthier as if they exercise every day like the pros. This pill helps the heart and prevent other diseases associated with lack of exercise.

ABC News report on the Salk Institute

Many new things are going on with the Salk Institute having your ear to the ground would be great if you are sharing the information with others.

We spend a lot of wasted time fantasizing about movie stars hero’s and not enough time praising the work of today’s heroes at the Salk Institute and other research groups aimed at helping solve health problems.

These Medical problems and conditions could affect us all one day. Let’s hope not but some doctors claim that everyone is borderline diabetes they do know it yet.  That’s a scary thought it could happen to anyone even pets.

We should do all we can to prevent these from happening to anyone we love.  And if they suffer from these diseases we should hunt down cures for them.

It could happen to anyone wouldn’t you want someone to present you with a cure if you all of a sudden get sick? What about a family member, someone you know, maybe a loved one, and or a friend.?

Sure we give credit to the police officers for saving the baby locked in the car on a hot day. Or to firemen for saving lives at a house fire.

These are true hero’s also but how much credit goes to the hard-working people who cure health problems, cancers, and different diseases.

The Salk Scientist suggest we can all live healthier lives by giving up smoking, using tobacco products, exercise more, and eating healthy foods.

I personally will name the Salk Institute Scientists and others who help cure us, as true modern day HERO’S. Who are your hero’s are they comics or do you shame away from these heroes of today.

If you have a story to share we would love to hear it. If you have any questions or comments please leave them below. Thank you for visiting.
